Our Leadership
UPA was founded by Peter Guzzi, a business leader whose career spans more than four decades building and leading organizations across insurance, financial services, education, and technology. That breadth of experience — on both the industry side and the nonprofit side of the table — is what shaped UPA's mission: making sure policyholders have a real advocate when an insurance company decides what their claim is worth.
From Insurance Distribution to Policyholder Advocacy
Peter's early career gave him a close, ground-level view of how insurance is sold and how claims get evaluated — and how easily an ordinary policyholder can be left to navigate that process alone. Rather than staying on the industry side of that relationship, he chose to build organizations that put the policyholder first.
A Track Record of Nonprofit Leadership
Before UPA, Peter founded Educate America together with the United Student Aid Association, a Washington, D.C.–based nonprofit dedicated to helping students navigate college financing and career opportunities. Within three years, the organization grew to more than 25,000 members while hosting educational seminars nationwide every weekend. Building a member-driven nonprofit around education and advocacy — rather than insurance sales — directly informs how UPA operates today: as a 501(c)(3) organization whose only interest is the policyholder's fair recovery.
Why UPA
Today, Peter serves as UPA's founder and executive leader, bringing decades of experience in insurance distribution, nonprofit leadership, and organizational operations together in one mission: helping policyholders get the full, fair settlement their policy owes. That mission — not commercial insurance interests — is what UPA is built around.
